Our breeding has focused mainly on Gotland Russ ponies, but we have also had some Shetland pony foals. We only keep our own ponies. Some of our ponies are currently in training elsewhere.
In the future, our breeding activities will be mainly for our own use, and the number of foals for sale will be limited.
You will find all our own ponies here and ponies we have bred here.
We are truly proud of the ponies we have bred! Wee ponies have also been sold as foals to Sweden, which is a great honor—after all, Sweden is the country of origin for the Gotland Russ.
Sunday, June 5, 2022, will surely remain in our memories forever—on that day, no fewer than six of our bred ponies took victory!
About us
We, Erja & Laura Mattila, mother and daughter, have been involved in trotting ponies and pony harness racing for over 25 years. Our first competition pony was acquired in 2000, and he is still with us – Hessu ♥.
Today, our activities focus mainly on breeding as well as racing through leasing arrangements.
In 2020, we received recognition from the Finnish Russ Pony Association for our work with the breed. We were also awarded the B-Pony Breeder of the Year 2019 at the Young Power Gala in 2020. In addition, we have received the B-Pony Breeder of the Year award in 2022, 2024, and 2025.
Erja
I am an agricultural graduate (BSc in Agriculture) and have been involved with horses for over 50 years, including working experience in trotting stables.

My equine-related education includes a qualification as an Equine Sports Manager (further vocational qualification), as well as studies in Horse Breeding and Training (HAMK Open University of Applied Sciences). I have also completed a conformation assessment course organized in Sweden by the Swedish Russ Breeding Association and was selected for judge training, although I chose not to continue as my goal was to deepen my own knowledge.
In addition, I have attended numerous lectures and courses related to equine learning and training, and I continue to develop my expertise through webinars and other continuing education.
Laura
Laura contributes through her practical experience in training and competing ponies. She was an exceptionally skilled trainer and driver, able to bring out the best in each pony. She became the first driver in Finland to achieve 100 wins.
Laura also competed to some extent in Sweden, including as a catch driver in open-level B-pony races. We gained valuable knowledge and hands-on experience from the Seppälä family in Sweden.
Laura was also characterized by her mindset—she never believed she knew everything but always wanted to learn more. Hopefully, we can continue to apply these lessons with our own competition ponies in the future.
